Love them or hate them, the Dallas Cowboys have been one of the most successful pro sports franchises of all-time. They are also the most televised team in the NFL because they have the largest fan base and the haters love to (hopefully) watch them lose. Regardless of your opinion of the Dallas Cowboys, you simply cannot deny the fact that many of the game’s greatest athletes have worn the silver and blue.
From Roger Stauchach to Troy Aikman to Emmitt Smith, only a few teams have produced more Hall of Fame inductess than the Cowboys. Although Dallas hasn’t achieved great success over the past decade, they are still, well, the Cowboys. They’re still a team that draws attention from football fans around the league, and that will never change. Let’s take a look at the 8 best athletes to ever suit up for the Dallas Cowboys.
1. Emmitt Smith (RB 1990-2002)
Our #1 choice is certainly going to draw some criticism. Many experts and fans put Roger Staubach as the top Cowboy of all-time. But we gave the edge to the NFL’s most durable running back of all-time. Plus, Emmitt is the NFL’s all-time rushing leader. Emmitt Smith rushed for more than 17,000 yards in his brilliant Dallas Cowboys career. He reached the end zone 164 times (153 rushing and 11 receiving). He played an integral role in the Cowboys 3 Super Bowl championship teams in the 1990’s, and led the league in rushing 4 times. Smith surpassed 1,000 yards in every season from 1991 to 2001. He was the ultimate Dallas Cowboy and it’s a shame he didn’t finish his career in Dallas.
