There’s nothing like sitting around and arguing about a sports list. It seems everyone has an opinion and rarely do the opinions match. For example, try making a list of the 9 greatest Super Bowl winning teams. That’s a tough list to create. After all, we’re approaching the 50th anniversary of the first Super Bowl, so we have 49 winning teams to consider for the 9 open spots on our list.
However, we have more than 9 Super Bowl winning candidates that deserve to be on our list. You can make the argument that any of the NFC teams that dominated Super Bowls during the 1980s deserve to be on the list. Another consideration is consecutive Super Bowl wins by teams that virtually had the same players on the roster. How do you pick between two of the same teams?
Let’s count down the list of the 9 greatest Super Bowl winning teams.
9. 1999 St. Louis Ram
This pick may raise some eyebrows, since the Rams squeaked by the Titans. Yet, Steve McNair and Eddie George were no slouches, as the Titans clearly were the best team out of the AFC. “The Greatest Show on Turf” dazzled late, when Isaac Bruce hauled in a bomb from Kurt Warner to seal the game, or so we thought. McNair drove the Titans to within one yard of tying the game. The Rams had one of the most powerful offenses in NFL history, with the short passing game to Marshall Faulk acting as a running game. The defense was also tough, especially against the pass.
